Newsletter Term 3 Week 1

The school was buzzing this week with all the wonderful stories about the holidays.  I hope that you managed to reset and spend quality time with your family.

The School Development Day on Monday was a really productive day with sessions focussing on our Positive Behaviour Strategy, English and Maths targets and achievements and NAPLAN analysis.

The theme for NAIDOC Week 2024 is “Keep the Fire Burning! Black, Loud and Proud.”  The National NAIDOC Committee selected this theme to celebrate not only the survival but also the relentless spirit of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The theme also celebrates the enduring strength of First Nations culture and offers teachers a chance to explore various topics, perspectives and experiences with students.

Classes engaged with selected stories and activities that reflect this year’s theme and the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Room 12 represented the theme with their painted hands for their activity to represent coming together to “Keep the fire burning”

The year 6 classes researched the NAIDOC themes and posters over a number of years to analyse the impact of the title, theme and poster on audiences.

NAPLAN Analysis 2024

NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment undertaken by students in Years 3, 5,7 and 9.  It is the only national assessment that all Australian students undertake.

NAPLAN tests are only one aspect of Duncraig Primary School’s assessment and reporting processes, and they form an integral part of Duncraig Primary School’s Assessment Schedule across year levels.

The 2024 individual reports will be sent home to families early next week.  The preliminary analysis indicates that Business Plan Targets in relation to NAPLAN have been achieved.

These are outlined below:

YEAR 3 TARGETS – Improve student literacy and numeracy progress and achievement

School Uniform Update

A Uniform Survey was communicated to families in 2023 with over 470 responses were received to this Uniforms Feedback Survey.   This is a large response rate with the following results which have now been actioned by our Uniform supplier Nell Grey.

Board Meeting

The next Board meeting is scheduled for Monday 22.07.24.  Agenda items include:

  • Board Training Feedback
  • NAPLAN 2024 analysis
  • Policy Review – Behaviour Policy

As representatives of the school community, the governance role of a School Board member is directed via legislated functions, and can be summarised as follows:
– Understand decisions of the principal and others (except where they involve confidential information about people or families)
– Inform decisions of the principal and others (except where they are of a confidential or personal nature)
– Make decisions with the principal and others (in accordance with legislated functions and Department policy), this refers to approving contributions and charges and if applicable to the school sponsorship arrangements.

We thank our School Board Members for their interest, their time and diligence to tasks of the School Board.

Take care everyone!

Dr Melinda Harris
Principal
