At Duncraig Primary School, The Arts program provides students with opportunities to express creativity, develop skills and build confidence through both Music and Visual Arts. Through these disciplines, students learn to explore ideas, communicate meaning and reflect on their own and others’ work.

Music
Music at Duncraig Primary School is delivered by specialist teachers:
- Mrs Jan Ruscoe (senior students)
- Mrs Angela Coombes (junior students)
Our Music program is engaging, practical and performance?focused. Students participate in a variety of activities including:
- Singing and vocal development
- Movement and rhythm activities
- Playing a range of percussion and string instruments
- Composing and creating music, with opportunities to perform their work within the classroom
As students progress, they build confidence in performing and develop an understanding of musical concepts through active participation.
Choirs and Performances
Senior students have the opportunity to participate in both Year 4 Choir and Senior Choir, performing regularly at school events, including:
- School assemblies
- ANZAC Assembly
- Graduation Ceremony
- End of Year Awards Assembly
Students also participate in external performance opportunities, including:
- One Big Voice – Australia’s largest children’s choir event

Instrumental Music Program
Duncraig Primary School offers a strong instrumental pathway through the Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) program:

Selected students learn instruments such as:
- Guitar
- Flute
- Brass instruments
This program provides free tuition and opportunities to perform regularly at school assemblies and events, supporting students to develop their musical skills and confidence.
Visual Arts
The Visual Arts program at Duncraig Primary School provides students with opportunities to explore and create using a range of materials and techniques.
Students engage in:
- Painting
- Drawing using a variety of styles and media
- 3D art and construction
- Interpreting and reflecting on their own and others’ artworks
These experiences support students to develop creativity, technical skills and an appreciation of artistic expression.
Celebrating Creativity
A highlight of the Visual Arts program is the school’s annual Art Show, where students showcase their work to the school community.
