Intervention & Enrichment

At Duncraig Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every student is appropriately supported, challenged and extended in their learning. Through a combination of evidence?based intervention programs, authentic differentiation and enrichment opportunities, we provide responsive teaching that meets the diverse needs of our students.

Selected students may participate in the Department of Education’s Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) program.

The PEAC program provides opportunities for students to work alongside other high?ability learners in challenging and engaging learning environments.

At Duncraig Primary School:

  • Early Years students may be nominated for enrichment opportunities where appropriate
  • Year 5 and 6 students may qualify through testing completed during Year 4

Students selected for PEAC attend half?day workshops periodically throughout the year, learning with like?minded peers from other schools. These programs focus on:

  • Innovation and creativity
  • Higher?order thinking
  • Complex problem solving
  • Collaboration and inquiry

These experiences allow students to extend and deepen their understanding in authentic and meaningful ways.

Enrichment also occurs within the classroom through authentic differentiation practices.

Teachers recognise when students require additional challenge and provide opportunities to:

  • Deepen understanding of concepts
  • Apply learning in more complex contexts
  • Engage in critical and creative thinking
  • Explore open?ended problem?solving tasks

Rather than simply accessing content from higher year levels, students are encouraged to develop greater depth of understanding, reasoning and application within the curriculum being taught.

At Duncraig Primary School, students requiring additional support are identified through school?based assessment and teacher observation. Support is provided in a timely and targeted manner to help students develop confidence and achieve success.

Selected students may participate in withdrawal intervention programs in English, with a particular focus on:

  • Decoding skills
  • Reading fluency
  • Building confidence and accuracy in reading

These programs are carefully structured and responsive to individual student needs.

Intervention is not limited to withdrawal programs. At Duncraig Primary School, authentic differentiation occurs in every classroom, in every lesson.

Teachers adjust learning experiences at the point of need to ensure students can access and engage with the curriculum successfully. This may include:

  • Adjusted tasks and learning goals
  • Small group instruction
  • Scaffolded learning support
  • Additional opportunities for guided practice

Students may also be supported by skilled Education Assistants, who work across the school to assist students with a range of learning needs and curriculum areas.

Through these combined approaches, we aim to ensure all students:

  • Experience success in learning
  • Build confidence and independence
  • Receive appropriate challenge and support
  • Reach their individual potential

At Duncraig Primary School, we recognise that every learner is different, and we are committed to providing inclusive and responsive teaching that supports growth for all students.
