At Duncraig Primary School, our Science program is aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum and is designed to develop students’ curiosity, critical thinking and understanding of the world around them.
The Western Australian Science Curriculum focuses on building knowledge and skills across the strands of Science Understanding, Science as a Human Endeavour, and Science Inquiry Skills. Through these strands, students investigate, question, predict and problem solve, preparing them to think scientifically and apply their learning in real-world contexts.

Our Approach to Science
At Duncraig Primary School, Science teaching is engaging, hands-on and inquiry-based, while supported by explicit instruction to build strong content knowledge and skills.
Our program is enriched through the use of high-quality resources, including:
- Primary Connections, an evidence-based program linking Science with literacy development
https://primaryconnections.org.au/ - Inquisitive, providing interactive, curriculum-aligned digital learning experiences
https://www.inquisitive.com/
These programs support students to explore scientific concepts deeply, develop scientific language and apply inquiry skills in meaningful ways.
Specialist Science Program
Science is led by our dedicated Science Specialist Teacher, Nadine Jackson, who works across the school to deliver engaging, high-quality learning experiences. This specialist approach ensures consistency, depth of content knowledge and strong student engagement in Science.
Learning Through Real-World Experiences
Students at Duncraig Primary School benefit from a range of rich, hands-on learning opportunities using our specialised resources, including:
- A kitchen garden and chicken coop, supporting learning about sustainability, life cycles and living systems
- A 3D printer, enabling students to explore design, innovation and scientific problem solving
- A telescope, allowing students to investigate space and astronomical concepts
- Access to diverse literature, supporting the development of scientific understanding through reading and research
These resources help bring Science to life and allow students to apply their knowledge in authentic and engaging contexts.
