Newsletter 29th November

Dear families,

With less than two weeks until the end of the school year, we are certainly trying to fit as much into our school program as we possibly can. We can see that the children are starting to get a little tired and are certainly ready for their summer break. The weather is forecasted to be quite cool next week so hopefully that will support their wellbeing. Our Year 5/6 students commence swimming lessons at Sorrento Beach on Monday so hopefully the weather picks up a little to enable them to enjoy their swimming series.

2025 Kindergarten Orientation

Over the last two weeks we have welcomed our 2025 Kindergarten students and families. Both sessions were so well attended, and it was so heartening to see how well our new students settled into their future learning environment.

Year 1 Landsdale Farm Excursion

Our Year 1 students had a fabulous day at Landsdale Farm on the 21st of November. The students did Duncraig PS. proud with their exceptional behaviour and engagement.

Story Time in the Library

How lovely to see some of our Year 5 students read to our Room 13 students in the library for their last visit for the year. The students were so engaged!

Clean Up Crew

Check out our amazing Year 2 clean-up crew! They’ve taken it upon themselves to improve our school grounds during their break times. This is leadership in its purest form from our younger students!

MiniLit and MacqLit Celebration

MiniLit and MacqLit are evidence-based intervention programs. This year we have had quite a number of students particate in this program and have made such a commitment to improving their learning. Yesterday, we were able to give these students the accolades that they rightly deserve. It was great to hear from parents how proud they were of the progress their children had made this year. A huge thank you to Ms Klaver, Mrs Moyes, Mrs Cole, Mrs Adams, Mrs Jackson, Mrs Gabrielli, Mrs Hazell for taking the morning sessions and to Mrs Ruzics for getting the resources ready.

Week 7 Assembly

What a lovely introduction to the festive season, we witnessed at our last class assembly for the year, last Thursday. The students of Room 14 were so impressive considering it was their first ever assembly performance. I’m still in awe of how well they were able to remember all those dance actions and song words. Thank you so much to our Pre-primary team including Mrs Tara Phillips, Mrs Janet Phillips and Mrs McInnes in supporting our students from Room 14.

Reporting to Parents

Reports will be emailed home on Monday 9th December. As discussed in a previous newsletter, these reports will not have learning area comments for English and mathematics. This is the result of the Education Departments commitment to reducing workload for teachers. A comprehensive general comment will still be included to support you gaining knowledge about your child/ren’s engagement and achievement in all learning areas.

Transition

As discussed in our last newsletter, our students will participate in a whole school transition afternoon. From around 2:15pm on Monday the 9th of December, students will be told which classroom they will be in, in 2025. They will then attend that classroom for the last 30 minutes of the day. They will participate in some team building activities during this time and find out a bit about their teacher for 2025. Parents will be notified via Connect of their child/rens’ 2025 classroom/teacher on the Monday as well. We believe this will be a positive addition to our term 4 calendar to support your children being well informed about their future classroom. Please note, changes are always a possibility with adjustments to class structures, student numbers and staff placements.
