Newsletter 15 November

Dear families,

Well, our term is certainly motoring on at a fast pace! In just 4 weeks we will be saying farewell to another year.

Public Speaking Showcase

What a wonderful moment it was in the Duncraig PS calendar on Thursday. The 28 students who presented their poems did an outstanding job and should be so proud of their achievement. To stand up in front of the entire school and recite their poetry was so very heartening to watch. It was so wonderful to see parents supporting their children and I’m sure they were all very well versed in their child’s recital piece! Our instrumental students also showcased what they have learnt in 2024 and impressed both students, staff and families. A huge thank you to Mrs Oldroyd, Miss Collett, Mrs Ruscoe and our literacy committee for supporting our students.

Remembrance Day

On Monday, our students and staff gave Remembrance Day the thought and time that this special day deserves. As a collective, we recognised the day by placing handmade poppies on our front lawn.

Assembly

How impressive were Ms Collett’s students from Room 5 last Thursday. It was an outstanding performance in so many ways. Not only was their performance well versed it was so wonderful to see how well they were able to integrate technology into their assembly item. I did hear that a few students were a little frightened about going to bed on Thursday night and while I feel for them it really does showcase how brilliant and engaging their performance was.

Reporting to Parents

Reports will be emailed home on Monday 9th December. As discussed in a previous newsletter, these reports will not have learning area comments for English and mathematics. This is the result of the Education Departments commitment to reducing workload for teachers. A comprehensive general comment will still be included to support you gaining knowledge about your child/ren’s engagement and achievement in all learning areas.

2025 staff are busy constructing and finalising class lists for 2025. If your child is not returning to Duncraig PS in 2025, please contact the office.

Transition

This year we are very pleased to announce that in the last week of school our students will participate in a whole school transition afternoon. From around 2:15pm on Monday the 9th of December, students will be told which classroom they will be in, in 2025. They will then attend that classroom for the last 30 minutes of the day. They will participate in some team building activities during this time and find out a bit about their teacher for 2025. We believe this will be a positive addition to our term 4 calendar to support your children being well informed about their future classroom. Please note, changes are always a possibility with adjustments to class structures, student numbers and staff placements.
