Newsletter Term 2 Week 8

Cultural Responsiveness is a focus area at Duncraig Primary School and National Reconciliation Week (NRW) was a wonderful opportunity to integrate NRW activities into the teaching and learning.  National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

In Library with Mrs Keys, the students have been discussing Reconciliation Week during their library sessions. Each class has created a Yarning Circle around our indigenous rug and  discussed the meaning of Reconciliation Week. The students have then enjoyed listening to an indigenous picture book and have had the opportunity to borrow an indigenous book to take home for the week.
During the library session the students have also been listening to a collection of Noongar lullabies called Koorndaarm Bidi (which means ‘dreaming path’) from Belmont Songbook.
Koorndaarm Bidi was created as part of a Community Arts Network’s Lullabies program in Belmont www.can.org.au
Here is a selection of the books the students have enjoyed listening to:

Assembly Super Stars

Room 6 held their assembly on Thursday 29th May.  Mrs Watkinson’s, Ms Coomb’s and Mr Simonetti’s class explored well known art styles.  Room 6s artwork collection allowed us to see famous art styles resurrected from the past with a modern and personal digital twist.

The students even recreated a still life onstage of Leonardo da Vinci’s, The Last Supper complete with period fashion and hairstyles.

Room 6 delighted us with their freeze frame of Leonard da Vinci’s 1494 mural painting – The Last Supper
