Diversity & Inclusion

At Duncraig Primary School, we value and celebrate the diversity of our students, families and staff. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment where every student feels a strong sense of belonging and is supported to achieve their personal best.

Our approach aligns with the Western Australian Department of Education’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, which promotes environments that are free from discrimination, harassment and bullying, and where diversity is recognised as a strength.

We recognise that students come to school with a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, cultures, languages and learning needs. At Duncraig Primary School, we believe inclusion means ensuring every student can successfully access learning, participate fully in school life and feel valued within our community.

Duncraig Primary School reflects the diversity of the wider community. Publicly available school profile data indicates that approximately:

  • 18% of students come from language backgrounds other than English (LBOTE)
  • 1% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander

This diversity enriches our school community and provides valuable opportunities for students to learn from and appreciate different perspectives, cultures and experiences.

Inclusion is embedded across all areas of school life and teaching practice. Staff work collaboratively to ensure students are supported socially, emotionally and academically through:

  • Differentiated classroom teaching
  • Intervention and enrichment opportunities
  • Adjustments for students at the point of need
  • Inclusive classroom environments and learning experiences
  • Support from Education Assistants and specialist staff where appropriate

We are committed to ensuring all students are provided with opportunities to participate, succeed and thrive.

At Duncraig Primary School, we actively promote:

  • Respectful relationships
  • Cultural understanding and awareness
  • Student voice and belonging
  • Safe and supportive learning environments

Students are encouraged to value diversity, demonstrate empathy and contribute positively to the school community.

Through our whole?school approach, we aim to foster confident, respectful and inclusive learners who are prepared to participate positively in an increasingly diverse world.
