This term we are preparing for some big events at Duncraig Primary School, such as Science week, Book week, One Big Voice and the Athletics carnivals.
Science Week
We are looking forward to celebrating Science week focusing on the theme Food: Different by Design. It honors the United Nations International Year of Fruits and Vegetables and the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development. This Wednesday the students will be involved in interactive Science experiences with their buddies.
One Big Voice
Students in our school choir will be participating in the One Big Voice this Friday at Australia’s largest performance choir. Open to all schools, public or private (Years 3-7), OBV culminates annually in 2 massive concerts at RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia. Over 7000 students and their families celebrate in joyous affirmation of the life changing power of song.
Book Week
To celebrate Book Week this year, we will be hosting a range of activities during the week. The theme for this year is ‘Old worlds, New worlds, Other worlds’. To recognise the fictional character that appears in every world, the school will be hosting a ‘Where’s Wally Wednesday’ on Wednesday 25 August. We are encouraging everyone to dress up with some Wally inspiration.
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon to Duncraig Primary School
The Book Fair coincides with all our amazing Book Week celebrations between
Monday 23rd of August until Friday the 27th of August 2021.
Book Fair open to all parents, grandparents and friends in the community once again.
We are so happy to be able to welcome you all back to view the Book Fair in person.
The Book Fair is a fantastic opportunity to purchase amazing books for your own children or as gifts for family and friends. Scholastic endeavour to provide books at all different price points so everyone can join in the fun.
All purchases directly help raise Rewards Points for the school to spend on new books for the library.
The students get so excited when the new books start flowing through the library and are quickly snapped up to borrow!
Please drop in and be a part of the fun of reading, books and Book Week!
Opening times are as follows:
August 23rd – 27th 2021
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings 8.30am – 9.00am
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons 3.00pm – 3.30pm

Interschool X country
The Interschool X country event has been postponed till 6 Sept, held at Davallia PS.
Safe on Social Cyber Safety Workshops
Last week students in Years 3-6, staff and parents had the opportunity to attend cyber safety workshops facilitated by Kristi from Safe on Social. Attendees were provided with overviews and advice on privacy settings, a range of social media apps, gaming and managing your digital footprint. These workshops promoted many conversations and discussions points for students and teachers and I’m sure it has promoted many conversations at home too!
Some interesting points to consider when you or your child are online:
- The average age of an online gamer is 34-36 years old
- Location services track all your locations and movements (switch off all location services and only switch on for those apps you want to track your location)
- Nothing is ever deleted…even though it may be deleted from your device, app or account (remember that others you may be sharing with can screenshot anything)
- Make sure you know what you are agreeing to when you create an online account
- Supporting your child to have a positive relationship with their device is paramount (model this behaviour with your own device)
- Never post photos or videos of others without their consent
I would like to acknowledge the support of the Duncraig Primary School P&C who funded the student and parent workshops and Tabitha Stewart for coordinating these events.
Open Board Meeting
We invite families and members of the community to come along to our Board Meeting in the conference room commencing at 4.30pm, 30 August.
The meeting is open to the public so you can see how our Board works and meet the members who are a crucial part of our school governance.
