Newsletter 12th December 2024

Dear families,

Well, what a fortnight it has been! I honestly don’t think we could have added anything else to our calendar. As the school year comes to an end we say farewell to some valued staff members. While we have 100% of our teaching staff and education assistants returning to Duncraig in 2024, we say farewell to two office staff who have had a significant impact on our school over a very long time. While Mrs Sue Hutchinson has been on leave for the last year, she notified me this term that she would be retiring at the end of this year. Sue has worked as a school officer for the last 18 years and certainly has had a lasting impact on Duncraig PS. Mrs Leanne Gray has also made the decision to retire after working for 26 years at Duncraig PS. I have had the pleasure of working with Leanne for the last term and have been so grateful for the support she has given me in terms of getting a good grasp on the Duncraig context. She has been such an advocate of our school for a very long time and will certainly be missed. We do have one new teacher joining us next year. Rebecca Farrell will be working in Pre-primary one day per week in Room 14. Mrs Farrell is moving from North Tom Price PS and we are very much looking forward to her joining our team.

Toilet Refresh– I’m very happy to be letting our community know that all our student toilets will be undergoing major renovations in early 2025. This is being facilitated through a Department funded initiative. I know this will be welcome news to our families and staff. There will be some disruptions onsite while the works are being carried out, but we will ensure that student safety is an absolute priority.

Graduation: Our 2024 Graduation ceremony was a special moment in time for both students and families. This spirited group of students will certainly be missed as they head off to high school. While I only had the pleasure of knowing these students this term I know that they have bright futures ahead of them.

Presentation Assembly– Our Presentation Assembly was held last Thursday and it was wonderful to acknowledge so many of our hard working students that embody our Duncraig values of doing our BEST.

The following students were awarded an award by their classroom teacher/s :

Room 14: Cora M and Archer S

Room 16: Marigold H and Noah A

Room 17: Reuben B and Sadie L

Lions Literacy Awards- It was wonderful to have Carmel Ward attend our presentation assembly and award our literacy awards. The Lions Club have a long association with the school and have offered to support our 50th Anniversary celebrations.

The following students were awarded a Literacy Award:

Pre-primary: Georgia S

Year 1: Delphi D

Year 2: Arthur G

Year 3: Elise C

Year 4: Max D

Year 5: Mason H

Student Leaders 2025: It is always an exciting moment when our student leaders are announced for the following year. It was a very competitive group of contenders for our 2025 team and the following students are certainly well deserving recipients of these prestigious roles:

Student Councillors:
Hunter W
Darci L
Zoe W
Ryan T
Emma V
Maria S

Yonga Faction Captains:

Emmie L

Jacob A

Kaarak Faction Captains:

Bodhi J
George H

Karda Faction Captains:

Summer B

Ivy E

Edu-Dance: Our yearly Edu-Dance concerts were nothing short of amazing. It always astounds me how the dance teachers can work with the students for one term and get them dancing so well.

New School Uniform: From the first day of 2025 we are looking forward to seeing our students in our new school uniform. While there will be a transition period where both new and old uniforms will be acceptable, the new uniform will certainly be a great addition to our school. Uniforms are available for purchase at Uniform Concepts in Joondalup.

Personally, I would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome I have received this term. I feel so settled that it feels I’ve been part of the Duncraig PS community for way longer. I would like to wish our families and staff and safe and happy holiday break, and we look forward to seeing you in the new year. Students return to school on Wednesday 5th of February and the office will be open from Thursday 30th of January.

Warm regards

Rebekah Brand
