Parent Teacher Interviews

www.schoolinterviews.com.au/code/t63yu

Our Parent-Teacher Meetings will take place on Monday 18th July. This is a School Development Day and pupil-free. Staff will be available from 12.45pm for meetings. Parents are encouraged to book online using the above link. This link will be open from Week 7.  There may not be enough time slots for all families in some classes, so it is a first in-best dressed scenario. If there are no available time slots, then an alternative time may be arranged by contacting the class teacher directly.

Six Seasons Artwork

You may have noticed that our Six Seasons Artwork has been installed in the old undercover area. This artwork was completed by Year 6 students in 2021, as part of a NAIDOC grant and coordinated by Mrs Coombes and Mrs Jones. They look fabulous! They are depicting Duncraig and the coastline during the six Noongar seasons. Currently, we are in Djeran – the season we refer to as Autumn, as our days and nights become cooler and wetter. Thank you to Mr Holmes for installing these artworks for us.

NAIDOC Week Celebrations

NAIDOC Week traditionally falls during the July holidays. At Duncraig Primary School, we will be recognising and acknowledging the traditional owners of the land during Week 10 of this term. We are very excited to welcome Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse to our school on Monday, 27th June. They will be entertaining us with some stories, music and teaching us about Noongar words and culture, in their Wanjoo Workshop. The school will be funding most of this incursion, however, we will ask a small co-payment from families. Parents are invited to attend this musical incursion and are welcome to stay on and help out with ongoing NAIDOC Activities in the classrooms. Put it in your diaries. More information to follow!

After School Activities

In addition to the Zig Zags After School Care that is available to families, we are also offering MBA sports sessions and The Dance Club, for all Duncraig PS students. The Dance Club takes place on Tuesday afternoons and MBA takes place on Wednesday afternoons. If you are participating in these after school activities, I would be very interested to receive your feedback.

COVID – Learning from Home

While students are away sick with COVID, we will record their absence as such and assume that they are unwell and not able to participate in learning from home. If you find that your children could engage with some schoolwork as they near the end of their time at home, please contact your class teacher to arrange some simple activities that your children can complete. Class teachers will assume students are sick and not needing schoolwork, unless you notify them otherwise.

E-Safety and the Responsible Use of Technology

When students are using technology at school, there are certain protocols and filters in place to ensure their safety and the responsible use of technology. Unfortunately, we have had reports from parents that whilst at home some students may have “carte blanche” when it comes to technology use, particularly the use of messaging apps. Some students are receiving messages from others well into the night-time – quite late. Please ensure that your children are using technology responsibly, and at an appropriate time.

2022 Premier’s Reading Challenge

Students from Kindergarten to Year 10 are invited to uncover great mysteries through the world of books and to sign up for the Premier’s Reading Challenge. The challenge is to log 12 or more book titles from May to 9th September 2022, and readers will go into the draw to win prizes. You can sign up on this website: Home – Premier’s Reading Challenge (premiersreadingchallenge.wa.edu.au)

Introducing Rumbi  – Our New Chaplain

My name is Rumbi. I am so excited to be the new chaplain at Duncraig Primary School. Since the beginning of Term 2, I have been getting to know the students and staff around the school. I am thrilled to continue to meet lots more people, including the wider Duncraig Community. So, please don’t be hesitant to introduce yourselves to me if you see me around the school. I will be working at Duncraig every Thursday. During my time at Duncraig, my work will focus on doing The GRIT program, classroom visits, lunchtime social programs for students and pastoral chats with students. If you’re not familiar with what a chaplain does, please see the attached information on the role of a YouthCare Chaplain.

Thank you,

Rumbi
