Principal’s Update – week 8 term 4 2023

Final Weeks of 2023

As we near the crazy end of the school year it is so pleasing to note that our students continue to keep up their high standards. Students and classroom teachers have been kept busy finalising units of work, preparing for reports, and practising for EduDance and Graduation Assemblies. Staff have been working hard to finalise class lists and prepare handover information for the 2024 class teachers. Finding the balance between celebrating a successful 2023 and preparing for 2024 continues to challenge me. I am very thankful for a supportive and hard-working team, and the support and friendship from our school community. Thank you for a wonderful 2023!

2024 Staff and Classes

Class lists are nearly finalised and class teachers and rooms are locked in. We aim to have the class lists available on our website (first names only) on Wednesday afternoon 13th December. As always, teachers have considered our students’ social needs, parent feedback and learning styles when creating equitable class groups for 2024. The class lists will be available on the website for one week.

The teaching structure for 2024 will be:

Kindy A – Mrs Leonie Hetebry

Food Bank Christmas Appeal

For our final two weeks of the school term, we are collecting non-perishable items for our Food Bank Christmas Appeal. Please send to school foods that are non-perishable, within their use by date. Items in high demand are:

  • Canned meals
  • Canned fruit and veggies
  • Long life milk
  • Pasta sauce, spreads and jams
  • Nappies, baby food, formula
  • Pasta, rice and cereal
  • Toilet paper, deodorant, soap

There are gold plastic tubs located at the end of each teaching block, where students can drop off the donations. There will also be tubs in each Kindy classroom.

Transition Days

There have been many transition opportunities for our students in the past week. Our new Kindy students had a Kindy and information morning last Friday, with another one planned for Kindy C students next Friday. Our current Kindy students had some time in the Pre-primary classes this week in readiness for entering the ‘big school’. Thank you to Mrs Calton, Mrs Phillips, Mrs Cowton and Ms Burke for hosting an Pre-primary Parent Information Evening on Tuesday.

Finally, our Year 6 students who are enrolled at Duncraig SHS had their Transition Day on Tuesday 28th November. Apparently, the day was “great!”

Year 5/6 Beach Swimming Lessons

What a great way to spend the morning! Our Year 5 and 6 students have been participating in swimming lessons during Weeks 7 and 8, at Mullaloo Beach. They’ve had some great weather for it too. Even some of our teachers have made the most of the location and had a dip on those stinking hot days!

Room 12 PJ Day

Last Friday, Room 12 farewelled their pre-service teacher, Miss Holli Johnson, and combined it with a reward pyjama day.  Toby selflessly spent all of his hard-earned Dojo money to treat his fellow classmates to a day of no school uniform. The students had a fun filled day and, coincidentally, were extra ‘tired’ by the end of the day.

Enrolments or Students Leaving

As we finalise our class groups for next year, it is very important to know if there are new enrolments that still need to be added, or students leaving the school that we need to be aware of. If you know of any families in the area that have not already enrolled with us, please encourage them to do so as soon as possible. If you know that your child will be moving on to another school in 2024, please notify us so that we can factor in the absence and ensure numbers are equitable across the grades. Thank you.

Keyed Up Music Lessons

There is an opportunity for Keyed Up Music Lessons to operate out of Duncraig Primary School after school hours in 2024. Please see the flyer and contact them directly to register your interest so that we may ascertain days and times at Duncraig PS next year.

Front Office Art Display

Room 6, Year 4 students have produced some more amazing art with Mrs Coombes. You can check out their wonderful work in our front office display. This work is inspired by Andria Beighton’s collage pieces.
